What You Need to Know

  1. Why do I need to register for a username and password when I already have an FRN and password?
  2. The Commission Registration System (CORES) now requires you to have a username and password in order to log in.

  3. What happens if I do not register for a username?
  4. Without a registered username, you will not be able to access the Commission Registration System in order to obtain a new FRN or manage an existing FRN.

  5. How do I choose a secure password?
  6. To ensure the privacy of your registration information, all new CORES passwords must be a mix of 12 - 15 letters, numbers, and special characters and meet all 4 of the following conditions: 1 lower case letter, 1 upper case letter, 1 number and 1 punctuation/special character.

  7. What does it mean to "do business" with the FCC?
  8. A filer, licensee, certificate holder, or any entity sending payments to the FCC is considered to be doing business with the FCC and must therefore have an FRN. In order to register for an FRN, you must access CORES with your registered username and password. Petitioners or non-feeable complainants are not required to have an FRN.

  9. Why do I need to provide my email address to register for a username?
  10. In order to complete the username registration process, you must provide a valid email address as your FCC Username. The FCC must, then, validate this email address in order for the FCC Username Account to be activated. Once the account has been activated, the FCC will use this email to notify you of any profile changes, permission level changes, and to help you reset your forgotten username-password.
